Offered is a stunning and rare Black, Starr & Frost paper clip depicting in fine repoussé the full body of an eagle with open wings. This paper clip might have been part of the collection of a US senator in early 1900s for its engraving of "The Senator".
The paper clip is in excellent condition except for its spring not being tight. The hallmark of Black, Starr & Frost STERLING 887 is clearly visible on reverse.
Black, Starr & Frost is one of America’s oldest fine jewelers since 1810. It was considered one of the great American jewelers for many decades. In 1876, the firm was invited to exhibit at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia along with renowned firms like Tiffany & Co, Whiting, and Gorham. In 1939, it was one of five American jewelers invited to exhibit at New York’s World’s Fair. In 1929, it merged with Gorham to become Black, Starr & Frost - Gorham.
