| This is a French legal document from the Napoleonic period, dated 1 February 1809. It is four pages, 10" x 7" on laid paper, with a lovely Imperial eagle water mark. It has a printed and an embossed seal which I think are revenue stamps. It is entirely hand written (in French of course) and has 15 signatures, none of which are known to me. I believe it is a routine land transfer or similar and should be appreciated as an artifact of Napoleonic France without the expectation that it might be of historical significance. None the less, it is a very interesting item which would look great framed. Remember, the writer and each of the signers lived through the French Revolution at the time and Waterloo was to come in seven years! NAP1 | ||
