Very finely painted nature scene on silk, KANO School style, Japan, 17th Century. The motif depicts a mountainous landscape with trees and is dramatically rendered with a flying hawk, it's hunting instinct drawn to an escaping flying bird of prey. The soft pastel polychrome tones and ink illustrate cascading hills of the mountains and trees suggesting serene peace, whereas the hawk and it's alertness indicates power, survival and instinct...

Very finely hand painted flowering Sakura tree on silk, KANO School style, Japan, 17th Century. The motif depicts a large Sakura tree with lovely white blossoms, pink buds and leaves. In contrast the dark tree trunk suggests vigor, longevity and wisdom. Like so often seen in KANO School paintings, the motif is reminiscent of a dream and rendered in soft pastel tones and ink. This album silk painting is mounted on heavy gold paper and in very good condition with minor silk loss in two spots...

The motif depicts 4 white, blue, black and red feathered cranes in a marshy bank amongst bamboo, and is exquisitely rendered with discreet and delicate polychrome pastel tones and ink, reminiscent of a serene and tranquil dream landscape. This album silk painting is mounted on heavy gold paper and in very condition considering it's age. Size: H. 25 cm. x W. 21 cm.

A very fine Japanese ivory netsuke carving of a monk dressed in a kimono and wearing Zori sandals while beating on a Mokyugo temple bell. Intricate details of the entire figure including the soles of the sandals. Excellent condition throughout and free-standing. Meiji period (1868-1900). Size: H. 2" (5 cm.).
