Very finely hand painted flowering Sakura tree on silk, KANO School style, Japan, 17th Century. The motif depicts a large Sakura tree with lovely white blossoms, pink buds and leaves. In contrast the dark tree trunk suggests vigor, longevity and wisdom. Like so often seen in KANO School paintings, the motif is reminiscent of a dream and rendered in soft pastel tones and ink. A very fine Japanese ivory netsuke carving of a monk dressed in a kimono and wearing Zori sandals while beating on a Mokyugo temple bell.
