Very fine and rare KUSHAN terracotta votive tablet, 2-4th Century AD., depicting a serene seated Buddha with well defined features, crescent shaped hair topped by a raised ushnisha and a clear urna between the eyebrows. The head is surrounded by an aura/halo and his left hand is touching/reaching for a small vessel. The Buddha is clad in beautiful flowing robes. Hellenistic-Greek influenced modeling. Very handsome and attractive small head of Buddha, GANDHARA, 2-3rd Century, Grey Schist. The youthful face is well defined with handsome features following a classical Hellenistic-Greek style. The crescent shaped hair is toped by a raised ushnisha and a small urna is between the delicately arched eyebrows. The ear has a large pierced lobe. The nose and earlobe are slightly chipped, but inconsequential when considering the overall beauty of the exceptional face...

Fine original watercolour painted by British Orientalist Augustus Osborne Lamplough, R.W.S. (1877 - 1930), depicting the temple complex of PHILAE on the Nile, Egypt. Faint rays of the rising sun appear from the rosy dawn behind the large rock on the right. On the bank of the Nile several people and papyrus boats can be seen. Signed on lower left corner.
