Very rare and fine JIN DYNASTY Terracotta Tomb Brick Panel depicting a festive male drummer with flowing robes playing the waist drum (1115-1234 A.D), China. The waist drum with it's hourglass shape and cloth covering was tied to the players waist to allow him to move freely, without hindrance. It was an instrument of choice for dancers. In Shanxi, a waist drum dance dating back some 2000 years is still practiced today. Such a tomb panel depicting a drummer playing the waist drum from the Jin Dynasty is also exhibited at the Shanxi Museum, Taiyan, China Very good condition and no repairs/restorations.
