An exceptional and rare TANG DYNASTY (618-906 A.D.) BUDDHIST VOTIVE Tsa-Tsa TABLET, Terracotta, China, depicting Amitabha (Chinese Amitofou) the Buddha of the Western Paradise holding a staff. Amitabha is one of the most widely worshipped deities in Mahayana Buddhism in China from the late 6th through the 10th Centuries and in Japan from the 11th Century onward. Here the Lord Buddha is shown standing on a Lotus Petal, rising up from a pond, and surrounded by rising tendrils of Lotus buds. Very finely made. Size: 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" x 1/2" inches. Overall good condition with inconsequential soft edges. A true one-of-a-kind collector's piece! Rare!
