Superbly modeled and very rare JIN DYNASTY SHANXI TERRACOTTA Tomb Panel mounted on a museum quality metal stand depicting a festive flute player in flowing robes (1115-1234 A.D.), China. The JIN Dynasty which co-existed with SONG, China early in the 12th Century, were forest dwellers known as "Jurchen", who spoke an inner Altaic language and had conquered the Manchurian heartland in 1115. Their leader Aguda (r.1113-1123) named his Chinese style Dynasty "JIN", meaning "Gold" which was found in their homeland on the Ashi river, a tributary of the Sungari. They began to sweep southwards, and eventually held much of China. By Chinese standards, the Jin had a relatively short tenure of 119 years, but most of the brick tombs found were constructed during this time. Good condition overall, no restorations. Size 38.2 cm. 21.5 cm. (approximately 15" x 8").
