A Russian Gold and Nephrite cigarette case.Fully marked with the 56 zolotnik gold standard for St Petersburg before 1896.Makers mark A W possibly for Anders Wasten.The Nephrite expertly carved around the corners and walls giving a translucent quality.Gold mounts with spring loaded hinge.Ruby set thumb push.Condition is excellent with little or no wear.Size 52mm x 87mm.Nephrite cases were popular in Russia and were generally more expensive than silver or enamel examples.
