| A Russian Gold cigarette lighter by Faberge.Marked to the base with right facing Kokoshnik for manufacture 1908-1917 makers mark partially rubbed HW for Henrik Wigstrom.The Gold lighter in traditional sunburst pattern radiating from a Sapphire push button.The front with added Opal and Diamond set floral spray.The lighter operated by pushing the Sapphire which opens the spring loaded lid which in turn would strike the flint.Fuel is added by unscrewing the suspension loop at the base.The lighter movement is hand produced in brass.Lighters such as this would have come into fashion around 1912 onwards as match vestas began to go out of fashion.The Faberge workshops would have been one of the first to make the switch to producing this type of lighter for its customers.The lighter displays the same level of craftsmanship found in Gold cigarette cases of the same period.Size 49mm x 32mm x 11mm.Condition is excellent and if new flints,wick and fuel were added it would be in fully working condition.Russian Gold Lighters from this period are exceptionally rare. | ||
