Directly rom Jerusalem, ancient Byzantine terra-cotta oil lamp inscribed in GREEK LETTERS (RARE TYPE), dating to around 500 AD THE "Good Evening" WISH reads the inscription on this Byzantine oil lamp found throughout Palestine, but especially in Jerusalem. A RARE type, a good evening wish was wished on palestinian Byzantine oil lamps, but for a long time the phrase was not recognised as such by scholars. The "Good Evening" wish never appears on its own, but comes immediately after the formula "Christ's light enlightens all" with which was already familiar. Limited space never allowed Byzantine craftsen to reproduce the "Good Evening" wish in full. along with the traditional formula. Either one or the other of the phrase had to be shortened out for necessity. And even when abbreviation were used, the final letters of the message were often rather summarily executed. Measurements: Length: 11.5 cm - Width: 7 cm Condition: Intact, not repaired and not restored as found with some age weathering as shown Found in Jerusalem, Israel ALL ITEMS THAT WE OFFER FOR SALE COME WITH A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY SHIPPING IS $30 USD WORLDWIDE VIA THE FIRST CLASS EXPRESS AIRMAIL WITH FULL INSURANCE MORE THAN ONE PURCHASE WILL BE SIMPLY COMBINED IN THE SAME PACKAGE FOR THE COST OF ONE SHIPMENT |
