Byzantine inscribed terra-cotta oil lamp, dating to around 500 AD

“The light of Christ shines for all” reads the inscription on this Byzantine oil lamp found throughout Palestine, but especially in Jerusalem. The Greek inscription, Jodi Magness suggests, indicates the lamps were lit during the Ceremony of the Holy Fire in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, in Jerusalem and thats what make the oil lamp more rare and special

Measurements: Length: 9 cm - Width: 6.5 cm

Condition: Intact with earthy patina, not repaired and not restored as found
