EXTREMELY RARE PHILISTINE KERNOS FRAGMENT,1000 BC

Aweidah Gallery is pleased to present this museum quality and extremely rare Iron Age "PHILISTINE" white-slipped terracotta Kernos fragment
Dated from the begining of the Iron Age, 1200 - 1000 BC

Reference: ANCIENT POTTERY OF THE HOLY LAND BY RUTH AMIRAN

Kernos rings was probably used as a libation vessel during religious ceremonies in ancient Palestine. It consists of a hollow clay ring with hollow clay attachment of two animals.Wine or water would have been poured into the cup and circulated through the other objects attached to the ring, thus symbolizing the fertility of the earth and its produce

Measurements: Height: 10 cm - Width: 10 cm - Height on stand: 17 cm

Condition: Intact fragment with sharp details untouch as found

The item is mounted on a custom Lucite "Plexi-Glass" disply stand on high quality

Found in Samaria north of Jerusalem, Israel
