| Carved brass tray made in the early 20th century. This unique tray has a central medallion featuring Great Pyramids, the Sphinx, palm trees, flowers, and camels. Surrounding this is a ring of Hebrew lettering encircled by a foliate design. This has a pie crust edge. This particular tray was made in the early 20th century for trade to wealthy travelers who went "on tour" for extended periods of time, and liked to bring back "historical artifacts". With the discovery of King Tut's tomb, there was an increased demand for ancient Egyptian themed items. Because many of these travelers also traversed the Holy Land, Judaic themes of the Exodus as related in the Bible were particularly sought after. I believe that the letters are an acronym for a prayer as has been a Jewish tradition for Eons of time. This tray measures 23" across by 1.5" deep and weighs a little over 4 pounds. | ||
