| Indian elephant brass incense burner with howdah. There is a mahout, or elephant driver in the front of the howdah, the passenger area is where you would place a cone of incense. The elephant is enrobed with ornate trappings. The word "India" is etched onto the base. Cones as we know them today were an invention of the Japanese. archaeologists have found forms of cones in cave duellings as well as Egyptian tombs. This intrepid pachyderm measures 6.25" tall by 5" long and 3.5" wide at the base, and weighs nearly 1.75 pounds. | ||
