The Old Bazaar
|Bedouin style dallah, finjan, ibrik,or coffee pot. Solid brass Inlaid with silver and copper from Syria or Turkey, or possibly Egypt. This features a cartouche with Islamic calligraphy on either side, and a trefoil medallion below the spout. There are foliate semi medallions on the neck as well as on the lid. Inlaid chains divide the belly from the neck and accent the edges of the lid. It has been tinned inside making it safe for liquid consumption. The spout has a slight separation from the body near the top. It measures 9" tall by 4.25" in diameter, with a spread of 7" from handle to spout, and weighs one pound five ounces. There is an old tradition, I'm told, the long spout was designed to hold a hair from a camel's tail which is believed to purify the syrupy coffee as it is poured into tiny china cups.|
