Fine rare Australian colonial tulipwood box
Measures:25 cm w x 20 cm d x 10 cm h.
Mid 19th Century.
This wonderful Tulipwood box has a segmented inlayed circular star or compass pattern to the top, set within a square frame flanked by square inlays to the side and a fine banded edge. A similar design can be found on a tulipwood box on page 204 figure 77 in the book on Australian Furniture by Fahy and Simpson. The sides are well figured solid tulipwood and cedar secondary timber, original brass hardware and has original patination.
