| For our first piece of Huichol art, we have chosen a nice little (12x12) unframed beauty titled 'Chamanes en Manda.' Probably made sometime in the late 20th century-we received it in the early 90's, this piece is Signed by the artist- Rogelio Benitez Torres, with a dictated poem in a woman's hand on the back. This poem addresses the need to make offerings to the gods, and invokes the image of the deer and the 'aguila real' or 'royal eagle.' Both of these figures are sacred to the Huichol, and are rendered here with great charm. Please note that we have been free with the translation, and have provided a photograph of the back for your perusal. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, we will answer as best we can. | ||
