| This painting does a wonderful job at capturing the Afro-Cuban religion as it is found in the rituals of Santeria. Brought over from Africa, the religion of Santeria has its origins in African animist beliefs, while the word Santeria itself implies veneration of the saints. Cuba was, and is, an important center of Santeria, which is expressed in the arts as well as everyday life. The artist Tatico has used vibrant color and a real sense of motion to portray dancers in regalia. We believe this piece to have been done with oil paints, though it is possibly acrylic. | ||
