| A rare Chavin portrait jar from Peru, ca. 1200 – 200 AD. This outstanding Cupisnique type example is 4-1/2” in diameter and depicts an individual with an incised coif surrounding the chamber. The incisions are highlighted with red pigment. The slightly asymmetrical facial features are created by hand modeling and skillful appliqué workmanship, the combination of which result in a face that is unusually expressive for the type.
