| An awesome Quimbaya serpent effigy from the Middle Cauca region of Colombia, ca. 1000 – 1500 AD. This 4-3/4” high, hollow figure portrays an anaconda, which occupies an important position in the region’s mythology. The deeply carved zigzag pattern represents lightning, the incised dots represent the seeds of potential life. See “Ancient Art of the Andes”, page 140, for a similar example. Tip of tail reattached, else in exceptional condition. | ||
