An excellent Moche V figural vessel from Peru, ca. 550 - 700 AD. It is 7-1/2" high and is in the form of an old woman, portrayed seated, with her shawl wrapped around her. The eyes are closed, indicating an attitude of trance or prayer. Nicely detailed and beautifully painted. Intact. See "Empires of Mystery", page 97, for a similar vessel, describing the figure as a healer. |
