A superb Maya cylinder from the Sula Valley of Honduras, ca. 600 – 900 AD. This highly burnished blackware example is 6-1/4” high, 5-1/4” in diameter and is carved with volute design patterns similar to the “false glyph” designs on the famous alabaster vessels from that region. A beautiful vessel in great condition, with stucco remnants in the grooves and just a barely visible hairline crack.
