A superb Maya polychrome vessel from the Ulua Valley of Honduras, ca. 500 – 800 AD. This gorgeous Salua Polychrome tripod jar is 5-1/8” high and is decorated with a pair of superbly detailed monkey heads that serve as handles. The rim and bottom edge feature elaborately painted glyph bands and the hollow feet, which contain small rattles, are decorated with a checkerboard design. In exceptional condition, with strong mineral deposits. See Guzman "Museo Nacional de Antropologia", page 69, for related examples. |
