| A lovely Maya polychrome jar from the Ulua Valley of Honduras, ca. 400 – 800 AD. This choice footed vessel is 4-3/4" high, 5" in diameter and is ornately decorated with a trio of panels portraying seated lords. They are elaborately attired with complex ceremonial regalia executed in the style characteristic of the region. They are separated by plain red panels, indicative of a blood ritual being depicted in the primary scenes. The rim band features a series of glyphic devices and pyramid symbols, while the checkered pattern on the flared foot infers the elite status of the vessel’s owner. Intact, with good mineral deposits. | ||
