Nazca Trophy Heads Jar

An unusual Nazca trophy heads jar from Peru, ca. 500 – 600 AD. This choice example is 5” high, 5-1/4” in diameter and is decorated with alternating registers of triangular trophy heads and geometric designs, painted in black and white over cream slip. The artisan lightly pinched the upper half of the vessel to create an ovoid shape. In perfect condition, with vivid paint and strong mineral deposits.

See Proulx “Sourcebook of Nasca Iconography”, pages 106 & 184 for further details.
