An outstanding 7-1/4" high Vera Cruz head, ca. 300 - 900 AD, probably depicting an important sacrificial victim. The hollow head was once part of a larger sculpture and is adorned with an elaborate headdress, with the eyeballs shown hanging from their sockets. Facial details are highlighted with the characteristic black chapopote. See "Von Kuste Zu Kuste", page 117, for a similar example |
