Mayan Chiefs Bowl - Rare Type

An unusual Mayan Chiefs bowl from El Salvador, ca. 600 - 800 AD. This deep vessel has a 7-3/4" diameter and features three ornately attired chiefs, seated in the offering position, presenting gold objects as a sacrifice. They are painted in far greater detail than the best of regular Copador bowls, indicating the important social status of its owner. The figures are separated by small glyph panels. The interior has familiar Copador pseudo-glyphs around a central geometric design. Strong paint, good deposits and root marks. One stabilized stress crack.
