| An exceptional Chancay couple from Peru, ca. 1100 - 1450 AD. The male is 10-1/2" tall, virtually perfect. The horns on his head, combined with the painted tumi emblem, are most likely indicative of his status as a shaman. He is depicted with a traditional sling wrapped around his body. The female is 10" tall and has a little chipping on the right foot. Both have complex avian designs on their faces and hands representing ritual tattoos. They show nice deposits and have great brown and cream paint applied over the natural orange color of the clay. As you know, a true matched pair is exceedingly rare and this one is superb. | ||
