Mayan Glyph-Melon Bowl

A very large, deep bowl Mayan bowl from El Salvador, ca. 600 AD. This type is sometimes referred to as a "Melon bowl" due to its shape and decorative pattern. It has a 8" diameter and is 4-3/4" high. Painted overall in red and black over an orange slip, with the rim band consisting of 5 large, elaborate glyphs and a smaller one. The base is decorated with red and black stripes, with the interior streaked in orange over cream. Intact.
