Maya Poison Bottle

An unusual Poison Bottle from Guatemala, ca. 600 - 800 AD, 2-1/2" tall. A wild frog bearing teeth appears to be tearing his way out of the vessel, which is made of burnished buff terra cotta. It has orange paint and good cinnabar remains. The back and the base are nicely incised. A stress fracture does not detract from this exceptional specimen.
