| An outstanding Procession cylinder from Honduras, ca. 550 - 800 AD. The vessel is 5-1/2" tall and has a 4-1/4" diameter. Three wonderfully painted figures adorn this exceptional piece, each elaborately dressed and presented against a black background. The ornate headdresses denote their high rank. The leader of the group carries a feather decorated standard, a combination of shield and atlatl, which is a battlegear trademark/emblem of the Teotihuacan people and their Maya imitators. Overall, one could read this as a parade of defeated nobles offering or surrendering something, perhaps their weapons and/or standard. Note the bowed postures, downcast eyes, grimaces, and right-hand on left-shoulder submission gesture. The decorative band below the chevron rim decor is related to the Plumed Serpent.
