Chimu Rodent Whistle Bottle
An exceptional Chimu double-chambered whistle vessel from Peru, ca. 1100 - 1450 AD. This wonderfully quaint example is 6-1/4" high, 8" long and depicts a rodent seated atop the front chamber, chewing on something held with both paws. He is nicely detailed, with physical features molded in relief. Ancient Andean people often incorporated those animals that competed with them for the same food sources into their art. In excellent condition, with nice mineral deposits and a clear, high-pitched tone on the whistle.
