Moche Whistle Figure
A superb Moche V double-chambered whistle vessel from Peru, ca. 550 – 700 AD. This rare example is 7-3/4” high and depicts a vendor of funerary goods. His face is elaborately incised with ritual tattoos, including lizards and spiders, which represent Underworld messengers. Good paint and strong sound on the hidden whistle, which is a rather rare feature on Moche bottles. An crucial character showing the importance on ancestor worship in Moche culture.
