Nazca Kero

A wonderful Late Nazca kero, 5-1/2” tall, 5-3/4” diameter, ca. 400 – 550 AD. Specifically this is an Okros vessel. Okros is a transitional phase that developed in the Province of Ayacucho and preceded the Huari development. This culture shows much of the late Nazca influence and style. Wonderfully painted in bold colors over red slip, it depicts a deity with anthropomorphic features, adorned with numerous trophy heads and gold emblems. The superb artistry and skill level exhibited in the creation of this thin-walled vessel is extraordinary. The scene is best viewed upside down, the way this kero would have been stored when not in use. Enlargements 3 & 4 give you that view. It comes mounted on a custom stand.
