A very fine New York City Federal mahogany sideboard
An exceptionally fine and rare New York City Federal mahogany French sideboard table, ascribed to Duncan Phyfe, circa 1810-1815, with an ormolu gallery and pineapple finials. The present sideboard was discovered in an estate in Hudson, New York. There is only one known sideboard in existence made by Charles H. Lannuier, which is labelled, and is in the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art~American Wing, New York City, gift of Mr. Fenton L.B. Brown, 1972. The back is comprised of a single board; a very uncommon characteristic of New York City cabinetmakers. This construction feature has been associated with Lannuier’s workshop. The secondary wood throughout is mahogany. The ormolu gallery is original as are the finials. The brasses have been replaced. The dimensions are as follows: 79.5″ wide x 26″ deep x 43.5″ high.
