Japanese Edo Wood Lacquer Kogo- Biwa
This is a very fine mid 19th century (late Edo Period) wood lacquer box (kogo) in a shape of biwa (shimuzen) - Japanese mandolin with ivory carved adjustment pins. It has a very fine lacquer work (please see the pictures) over the exterior and a big gold foil nashiji over the interior. It is in excellent condition! It has no losses, wear , cracks. or chips; it is a very rare and highly collectible item. The Kogo measures 5 inches long , 1 1/8 inches tall by 2 1/4 inches wide.
