Japanese Edo Pair -Cloisonne Brush Pots on bases
Rare Japanese Edo Period (early 19th century) museum quality highly collectible pair of Cloisonne brush pots on wood lacquer bases, with symbolic floral decorations over blue background with fine wire work. Original wood lacquer stands are finely hand-painted with maki-e and hiromaki-e over nashiji background, rested on four feet, and are decorated with various attributes, dolls and other floral decorations with symbolic ornaments. The bottom of bases are made with nashiji as well. Brush pots are of cylindrical shape and are removable from bases. There are no losses to cloisonne; there are some early bake imperfections which are normal for brush pot's age. One base has three re-glued feet but this does not affect the beauty of the base. 8 1/2" tall x 6 1/2" D each.
