| Top quality big Japanese Meiji Period (1868-1912) unusually shaped and pierced Satsuma Bowl, signed by the artist. The Bowl has five heart-shaped pierced holes on each side, one big decorative scroll with a procession, and three scrolls above it which depict a lobster, fish and octopus. There are also various hand-paint decorations with scenes of aristocrats, three women, men and a child, a landscape, trees and mountain. Other decorative scrols depict eight playing children, one holding a scroll with a signature of the artist of the bowl, men walking on bridge, paradise bird and other birds. All the rest of the interior of the bowl is finely decorated with floral and symbolic decorations. The pierced holes over the exterior of the bowl are decorated with fine gold painting. The signature of the artist is on a scroll on a shield with eight playing kids. Serious collectors welcome 7 3/4" D. x 2 1/2" tall. | |||||||||||||||
