Important Japanese Satsuma Koro, signed
Japanese museum quality tripod lidded Satsuma Koro (Incense Burner) with six sides, with handles in a shape of beasts with rings and and sculpture of an old man with a bag on top of a lid. The body of the Koro is decorated with six decorative panels. One panel depicts five frogs, four bugs and cranes; secondpanel has a scene of two mandarin ducks, a river, a man in a boat, flower bushes , mountains and three flying birds. The third panel depicts various fish and an octopus; the fourth- geese under flower bushes , six flying geese and two birds. There are four aristocrat ladies, one with a fan, floral and fan decorations with a bird on the fifth panel and five flying birds around a tree, blossomed bushes and a small bridge design on the sixth panel. The upper and lower parts of the Koro as well as a lid have fine decorations. A sculpture of a man with fine expression is "dressed" in a fine kimono with shishi and has a bag with symbolic decorations. The lid has two smoke released holes. The Koro is signed by the artist. 9" wide x 11" tall
