Fine Japanese Edo tripod gosu-blue Satsuma Jar
Fine museum quality Japanese Edo Period (late 18th-early 19th century) tripod gosu-blue Satsuma Jar with sculptural decorations. The lid has an okimono on top of it with two girls, one of which holds a sake cup with writing on it and another girl, in a running position, holds a big spoon on her shoulder and a cup in her right hand with writings on it. The Jar rests on three feet in shape girls who hold the jar. On the body of the Jar there are magnificent low-relieved decorations with scenes of a dancing girl with a cup and a fan on one side and a laying girl with a cup on the opposite side. There are also decorations with water drop design. The workmanship is very fine and detailed. 17" tall x 8 3/4" D.
