Important Museum quality Japanese 19C wood, lacquer and ivory Okimono of a woman -musician sitting on a bench, with a drumstick and a drum in her hands, finely carved from ivory. Her feet, head, a hat and flower decorations are also carved from ivory and scrimshawed. The wood lacquer kimono is made with maki-e and hiromaki-e techniques, fine nashiji, two-tone gold and symbolic floral decorations on her kimono. The Okimono is signed by an artist underneath, next to woman's foot. The wood bench is made from wood with gold lacquer decoration. The Okimono is in excellent condition with no losses, no wear and no chips. 6" tall x 3 1/2" wide x 4 1/4" deep.
