Big finely decorated sculptural Japanese Meiji Period (1868-1912)tripod Satsuma Koro by Chin Jukan XII with Shoki with a sword sitting and holding Oni over top of a lid, and 2 onis sitting over sides of the Koro as handles.
The round scroll over the center of the Koro is finely decorated with a raised gold decorations and clouds. One scene over the round scroll shows a man and a woman playing go-game and an older man and a boy behind the woman. The other scene on the opposite side shows 2 aristocrat men sitting on a rock and looking at a boy holding staff in his hands, with low relieved rocks and a waterfall, creek and clouds on the background. The top and the bottom of the Jar has finely raised symbolic decorations as well as the top of the lid with 4 pierced openings on it.
The okimono of Shoki and Oni is very fine and the kimono and obi over Shoki are very finely decorated with various dragon mons. The top of feet are finely decorated with symbolic ornaments. Shoki and Oni are very rare in Satsuma design and are highly collectible.
