| An extremely rare piece for the collector. For your consideration is this Antique Locket from the Georgian Period, dated 1774, Pre-Victorian, composed of gunmetal with a photo and a dried rose with original glass inserts. Around the bezel there are the numbers 1774 scratched into the surface which I believe to be a memorial date around the time of the production of the locket. Although photographs did not come into being until the 1820's, the photo is quite old and came with the locket as found. Gunmetal was popular for jewelry in times of war and this one has the original patina as found (I did not want to touch it or clean it as the patina is quite beautiful the way it is now). It is a most wonderful antique piece with a lot of history. Overall it measures about 1 3/4 inches long with bail and 1 1/8 inches wide. A must have for anyone who collects true antiquities or rarities. | ||||||||||
