| Fine Cambodian Pidan Hol, all hand loomed twill ikat temple cloth These were hung in a temple or home behind a personal shrine- given the size of this piece; L: 3m/9.8ft and W: 83cm/32in, this was probably, commissioned by a wealthy family to donate to a temple as form of merit making. These would be brought out only for special ceremonies or festivals and would adorn the base of a Buddha image or act as a backdrop when an abbot performs blessings and discourses on the Dharma. This piece depicts an upper row of seated Buddhas flanked by devotees and apsaras with an upper border of elephants, below are temples with people/spirits and birds/chickens. In an excellent condition with no damage aside from a few frayed threads behind the hem stitched side border. This is pre Khmer Rouge Era, circa 50 years or more and quite fortunate to have survived that turbulent period in such an excellent state. | ||||||||||
