Palad Khik Amulet
~Sold to Singapore, thaks la!~

Very finely carved buffalo horn “khik” from Thailand. This amulet has a woman laying across the penis and is specifically made for a woman, to protect her against rape and theft, the monkey represents Hanuman and is a charm to ensure happiness and fidelity in marriage. These are usually carved by specially trained monks- the higher the monk’s reputation in this field the more power the amulet is believed to wield. This one would not be worn but kept in a lady’s bag or pocket. Lightly inscribed on the surface is Khom script which is actually old Khmer writing and is used in Thai Theravada Buddhist texts. I suspect what is written is a specific invocation of whatever the wearer requests the monk to protect him (or in this case-her) against. Palad Khiks evolved from Hindu Shiva Lingam worship and Thai Buddhism still retains a lot of Hindu influence. L: 7.5cm/2.9in about 20 years old.
