| Fine old Burmese red lacquerware bowl with quatrefoil “ku-nan-kan-yat” motif which is one of oldest and more common designs, according to Sylvia Fraser Liu: Burmese Lacquerware. This one dates to circa 1950 to 1960; there are some cracks in the lacquer which is one of the few reliable determining any significant age besides minute detailing in the design. Unless a piece of lacquer is hermetically sealed, it will crack even if it is not used due to oxidation caused by exposure to air and varying humidity. This piece is signed with some minor loss on the footrim, and in excellent condition for a genuinely old piece. D: 11.8cm/4.6in and H: 9.2cm3.5in. | ||||||||||
