Khmu ensemble of bamboo boxes

Collection of small bamboo containers from the Khmu (Khamu) ethnic minority in Northern Laos. These people are the original inhabitants of the region and predate the Lao and Thai peoples. They usually live in remote areas around Luang Prabang and practice simple agriculture, hunting and gathering as well as bartering goods with other neighboring minorities. These would date between 20 and 50 years, probably oldest and the most interesting of the group is the one with a “stem” (enlargement #7), which is covered with covered with animal skin.
