| Used also as a baby carrier this is part of a Khami woman’s traditional dress called a “htip paum”. Of the many I examined I chose this and the other one listed for their unusual pictorial patterns. The Khami are linguistically related to the Chin but are low land rice farmers and live in the Delta region of the Kaladan River in western Burma. This piece is aprox 30 years or older and is excellent condition. Also please note that the pattern is hand embroidered on one side only and not woven in. The dimensions are 1.6m/5.3ft x .33m/1.1ft. For further study on these textiles, I would recommend the article Notes from the Field: On the trail; of Khumi, Khami, and Mro Textiles by D.L. Garner and J. Brommer- The Textile Museum Journal 1999-2000. | |||||||
