Li Blanket
~Sold to Hong Kong, doh jie lei!~ $1500.USD

Exceptionally fine and rare bed cover composed of pounded linen foundation and handspun natural local indigo dyed cotton thread, from the Ha dialect speaking Li people, Hainan Island. Symbols depicted on this piece are single face embroidered tortoises and human/ancestor figure. I have seen about 15 or 20 of these blankets and the only one I have encountered with this pattern as well as some significant age- circa 50/60 years old. Excellent condition, L: 1.86m/6ft1in and W: 1.25m/4ft2in. Reference: Tradiditional Brocade of the Li Ethnic Group- Fu Guiha (editor in chief). Please email me for an informative Youtube video UNESCO link that goes into detail on the history, weaving and dyeing processes of the Li textiles, since Trocadero won't allow me to post it my listing.
