Fine and rare fully glazed Tang Dynasty white glazed jar from the Gongxian Kiln, Henan China. Nigel Wood in his definitive work ~ “Chinese Glazes” considers Gongxian ware as one of the three Tang porcelains along with Xing and Ding ware. The photos do not do this piece justice as my editing software tends to truncate (squish) images, and shades of white are the most difficult for me to accurately capture. Please view enlargements for the best examples of the true color as well as the shiny surface, as the pictures tend to show glaze as being more mat than it really is. There has been an invisible repair about the size of grain rice. This can be best detected by feel rather than look- anyway I have included a photo of this area in enlargements. H: 11cm/4.3in and D: 13.8cm/5.4in.
